Pink Squish IV
March 15–April 15, 2021

(Pink) Squish IV is a site-responsive sculpture—a large-scale, inflatable biomorphic form squeezed into the front porch of The Residency Project. As with previous installations of the work, this fourth iteration responds to the unique spatial, architectural, and environmental parameters of the residence it inhabits. Here, (Pink) Squish presses up against the lintel, slopes gently down the stoop, and scoops to the left, wrapping the river rock pillar in a loving embrace. Celebrating and amplifying the uncanny space of ‘in-betweenness’ created by outdoor neighborhood living spaces, the installation simultaneously connects and separates the porch and surrounding environment with a sensual cushion of air.

Artist Statement

I am interested in how we imagine the lives of objects in relation to our own lived experiences and how spatial environments impact perception. Using constructed sensual forms, I create playful art objects and site-responsive installations to explore the subjective landscape of feeling. Working responsively, I approach each situation in the spirit of play, watching to see how relationships develop, discovering how objects physically relate to the body and exploring where meaning comes from. Composed of both familiar and unnamable components, my work provides opportunities for nostalgic gesture, inviting one to imagine forward, an alternate experience of the world.
